"content_html": "
Cairns Friendly Computer Lessons is a community project providing free personalised one-on-one computer lessons for seniors aged 60+ across Cairns and surrounding suburbs.
\n
I started this project because the part of computer work I have always enjoyed most is teaching.
\n
For years, I worked with computers by repairing them, troubleshooting problems, setting up devices and helping people when their technology was not behaving the way it should.
\n
But over time, I realised that fixing the computer was often not the most rewarding part.
\n
The part I enjoyed most was sitting beside someone, explaining what was happening and helping them understand how to do something for themselves.
\n
That is what Cairns Friendly Computer Lessons is about.
\n
Learning at your pace
\n
You do not need to know the basics before we start.
\n
You do not need to understand computer jargon, and you are not expected to remember everything after hearing it once.
\n
We begin with where you are now and work toward the things you actually want to be able to do.
\n
That might mean learning how to send an email, organise your files, use the internet, complete online forms or simply feel more comfortable finding your way around your computer.
\n
There is no fixed course that everyone has to follow.
\n
Your lessons are built around your goals, your current skills and your computer.
\n
Nothing is too small to explain
\n
One of the most important things I have learned while teaching computers is that a step is only obvious once you already know it.
\n
An experienced computer user might say, “Go to the Start menu.”
\n
A beginner may still need to know where on the screen to look, what the Start icon looks like, how to move the cursor to it and which mouse button to press.
\n
Those small actions matter.
\n
I break unfamiliar computer tasks into clear, manageable steps so that you can understand not only what to do, but how to do it.
\n
Over time, those small actions become more familiar. The things that once required careful thought gradually become things you can do for yourself.
\n
We work together
\n
I do not see computer lessons as one person talking while the other person tries to keep up.
\n
We work alongside each other.
\n
There is room to ask questions, make mistakes, practise, go back a step and try a different explanation when something does not make sense.
\n
If something is confusing, I want you to tell me.
\n
If something feels frustrating, we can slow down.
\n
If an approach is not working for you, we can change it.
\n
The goal is not simply to finish a computer task while I am sitting beside you.
\n
The goal is to help the knowledge, skills and confidence gradually become your own.
\n
Building digital independence
\n
Technology is becoming part of more and more everyday activities.
\n
It can help us communicate with family and friends, access information and services, enjoy hobbies, organise our lives and participate in things that increasingly happen online.
\n
My hope is to help make that digital world feel a little more accessible.
\n
If you are aged 60+ and live in Cairns or surrounding suburbs, Cairns Friendly Computer Lessons offers free personalised one-on-one computer lessons designed around your goals and current skills.
\n
You do not need to feel ready before you begin.
\n
We can start exactly where you are.
",
